If items are more than 28 days overdue, or if unpaid charges exceed $15.00 on a library card, use of your library card is temporarily interrupted. A patron must clear off their charges before their library privileges are reinstated.

If you forget to return an item, you will be notified by phone or mail when the item is 14 days overdue. An invoice will be sent when the item is 28 days overdue. The Library may engage the services of a collection agency to assist in collecting payment of outstanding monies and the return of borrowed items where normal administrative practices have not resulted in collection.

Payment Methods

We accept payment by cash, cheque, Visa or Debit card at either branch of the library.

Payments using Visa may be handled over the phone as well as in person. If you are mailing in a payment via cheque or money order, please make sure to include your name and card number so we know which account to apply the payment on.

**Please note: The library does refer unpaid accounts to a collection agency. Those accounts registered with the collection agency must then be handled at the collection agency. Payment at the library is no longer an option in those cases.

Renewals

Renewals are now easier than ever!

Most library materials can be renewed unless:

  • There is a request on the item
  • It is a Book Express item, or a DVD (which are non-renewable)
  • The maximum renewal limit on the item has been reached
  • There is an outstanding balance on your account of $15.00 or more
  • Your library card has expired.

  • There are 5 ways to renew library items:

Place Holds

To place a hold on a library item, conduct a search for an item, in the results list or item record choose Place a Hold. Enter your library card and PIN. Click the Place Hold button.

Holiday Holds

If you've been waiting for a book on hold, you don't want to miss it while you're out of town. Click here to see instructions for putting a holiday hold on our website.

Please Note: Suspending your hold does not mean that your item will immediately be avaliable when you return from holidays. It will only hold your place in line. If there were other people in front of you before you left, there may still be people in front of you when you return. Suspending your hold simply ensures you won't be called to get your hold while you are away.

If you do not have access to a computer, please ask us to do a holiday hold for you

Returns

You can return materials to either the Bob Harkins Branch or the Nechako Branch of the Prince George Public Library, regardless of which branch you borrowed the items from. Always check your receipt to ensure you return items by closing time on their due dates. For your convenience, book drops are available for returns when the library is closed.

If you are returning DVDs, Books on CD, Graphic Novels or Music CDs and plan to borrow more on the same day, please take these returns to the RETURNS counter. This way the items can be processed immediately, freeing up your card to borrow more.
