Taking shape

It sounded a lot like a dentist office at Bob Harkins late last week and this morning, with all of the drilling going on, but here's the result - steel columns bolted into the pillars to serve as the foundation for SkyLab. Once this part is finished, it'll be time to pour concrete!

Easter hours

Can you believe it? Easter is just around the corner. Both branches of the library will be closed on Good Friday (April 6), Saturday, April 6, Easter Sunday (April 8) and Easter Monday (April 9). We'll be back Tuesday, April 10 for regular hours at both branches.

Skylab construction

Crane is gone, window is closed and all of the steel for Skylab is inside the building. Here's how it looked. For more photos, visit our Facebook page (and Like! us) and to see some video, check out our YouTube page.

SkyLab construction

Plenty of excitement Monday morning at the Bob Harkins branch. Starting at about 7 a.m., work crews will be on site removing some of the glass panels from the newspaper and magazine reading corner. Meanwhile, a crane will be setting up on Patricia Boulevbard, blocking one of the lanes heading towards Victoria Street. Once the glass is removed, the crane will start swinging steel beams into the top floor of the library. Once all the beams are in, the windows will go right back up and full use of Patricia Boulevard will be restored. The back third of the top floor will be closed off to allow the beams to be moved into place but the library will be open at 10 a.m. as usual. Feel free to come down and check it out!
