Get A Library Card

You need a valid Prince George Public Library card to borrow library materials, use the Internet, or use certain online resources like databases, audiobooks, and ebooks from home.

Who Can Get A Card?

Our library cards are free for all Prince George residents and for the portion of residents in the Regional District of Fraser - Fort George covered under our service agreement.

Library cards are also available for non-residents and temporary residents for a fee. Non-residents will pay $120 per year. Temporary residents of the City of Prince George may also join the library for a fee of $5 per month. In addition, a $10 deposit is required when receiving the card and will be refunded when the temporary card is returned to the library.

How To Get A Card

To get a library card, you will need to fill out an application (available at both library branches) and present personal ID that shows your legal name and your current address. Examples of preferred ID include:

  • A valid driver's license
  • BC identification
  • Any piece of personal identification (like a status card, Care Card) combined with proof of address (like a piece of mail with your name and address)

New to town?

If you have just moved to the Prince George area and do not have your identification updated yet, we can issue you a card using a piece of personal identification. You then have one month from the registration date to provide your new address and phone number.

Cards For Children Under 12

If children under 12 are applying for a card, a copy of their birth certificate or Care Card must also be provided by the parent or guardian. Please note that parents assume responsibility for items borrowed by their children and are required to sign a statement of responsibility at the time of registration for children age 11 and under. Parents whose library charges exceed library limits cannot sign for a child’s library card.
