Every day is Literacy Day at the library!
We just finished our celebrations for National Family Literacy Day last week, but practicing your reading skills every day will make you an even better reader! And although we have TONS of great books that we would love to share with you here at the library, there's also lots of other fun things that you can do at home with your family and friends to practice with words, letters and reading...
- Read everything you can see! Read the cereal box in the morning, the road signs and billboards when you're in the car, the menu at a restaurant, or the brand name on the toothpaste tube while you brush your teeth before bed
- Try baking or cooking a simple recipe (with mom or dad's help of course!). Read the instructions out loud together and the brand names on the packages of ingredients
- Play with a set of letter blocks or letter fridge magnets and see what words you can spell out
- if you have a karaoke machine at home, borrow a karaoke CD from the library and sign along while you read the words on the screen
