Book Club sets

The library has purchased lots of new book sets for teens and tweens, and they are available to sign out free of charge!  We buy multiple copies of some of the newest and best junior and teen level fiction books, and we keep them as sets at the children's information desk for teachers to use for class novel studies, or for anyone wanting to put together a book club for kids.  Come in and browse through the sets to choose one that's right for your group, or have a look through the list of sets online!

booksTeens and Tweens Book Club @ the library

This in-library book club for kids 11 and older meets on the last Thursday of the month from 7:00 - 8:30pm at the Bob Harkins Branch, and we're always looking for more interested young readers to share our newest and best books with!  Bring a friend or bring a parent or other adult, enjoy some snacks, and talk with other kids your age who love to read too!  Pre-registration by telephone is required. Please contact us at 250-563-9251 and see our Book Clubs page for more information.

Book Searches

Need a dozen picture books about colours and shapes for your preschool?  Looking for some materials to support your class study on minerals and gemstones?  Call the Children's Information Desk and request a book search!  Let the staff at the public library find the books for you, and save yourself some valuable time.  We are happy to pull up to 20 books on one topic for you, but don't forget we need at least 2 days notice!  And if you cannot pick up your books on time, please notify us, otherwise the books will be re-shelved and the search will not be re-done.  Please contact us at the Children's Information Desk at 250-563-9251 for more information.

Library Tours

Bring your class to the library and we'll show them what it's all about!  Our Children's Department staff will share with you the features of our library and how it works, highlight age-appropriate materials, share some stories, and help your students get library cards too!  Tours are adaptable for varying age groups, group sizes, and time slots, so just let us know what you need and we'll be happy to work with you to arrange a tour that's right for your group.  Please contact Ruth, our Program Coordinator, at 250-563-9251 ex. 107 for more information.

Storytelling Visits

We have some very talented storytellers at the library who would love to come to your school to share stories with your class.  Whether for preschool, elementary or even secondary school classes, we have crowd-pleasing stories and literacy-building activities that will engage your students in a new way.  Please contact Ruth, our Program Coordinator, at 250-563-9251 ex. 107 for more information.
