The Prince George Historic Newspapers Project is an initiative with key information service providers in Northern BC. In this collaborative venture three libraries, The Prince George Public Library, The College of New Caledonia Library, and The Geoffrey R. Weller Library at the University of Northern British Columbia, are working together to provide free digital access to the historical newspapers of Prince George, British Columbia.
With the consent and financial support of the Prince George Citizen publisher, the database entitled Prince George Newspapers provides digital access to the city.s historical newspapers including the Fort George Tribune (1909-1915); Fort George Herald (1910-16); the Prince George Post (1914-15); the Prince George Star (1916-17); the Prince George Leader (1921-23); and the Prince George Citizen (1916-1961).
Funding support was received from the BC History Digitization Program provided by the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia, with sponsorship funding also provided in 2007 through the Prince George Community Foundation. Our intent is to undertake digitization of the Prince George Citizen from 1961 to the present. The next phase of this project will begin in mid 2008 pending funding.
A listing of known anomalies and errors will be displayed here in the near future.
